October 7, 2023, the new outdoor California Dinosaur Garden exhibit opens with a free special event from 10:30 a.m. until noon, inclusive of a ribbon cutting and walk-through tours of the exhibit. The Museum and Zoo will open for ticketed visitors at 12:30 p.m. on this day.
The California Dinosaur Garden is an immersive experience of California's Cretaceous period. Life-size dinosaurs will accompany prehistoric plants, realistic animal sculptures, and interactive exhibits (hello fossil dig!) to create a uniquely engaging snapshot of life during this period. The exhibit encourages imaginative outdoor play while stimulating curiosity and interest in this formative period of California history.
This beautiful outdoor space will be fully accessible, including wheelchair access to the fossil dig, braille labels, and tactile, sensory-rich elements for children of all abilities. We can't wait for guests to experience engaging nature play and hands-on exploration of the natural world through this upcoming exhibit. Stepping into the California Dinosaur Garden will truly feel like stepping into the Cretaceous period, and is sure to bring history to life for kids and adults alike.
