Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the JMZ increasing membership and ticket prices?

The Junior Museum & Zoo is implementing modest adjustments to admission and membership pricing to help support the long-term sustainability of the organization amid the City’s current financial realities and projected budget challenges. These updates will help the JMZ continue providing high-quality educational programs, animal care, exhibits, and community experiences.

A portion of the additional revenue will also support the JMZ’s conservation efforts, which are an important component of maintaining accreditation standards through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Will the JMZ continue offering accessible and affordable opportunities for families?

Yes. The Junior Museum & Zoo remains committed to accessibility and inclusion and will continue offering free and reduced-cost opportunities through community programs and partnerships. Reduced admission pricing will remain unchanged at $3 per person for income-eligible families and families with members who have disabilities. Discounted memberships for eligible households will also continue to be available.

What type of conservation efforts are the additional revenues supporting?

The Junior Museum & Zoo is developing a conservation strategic plan aligned with Association of Zoos and Aquariums requirements and best practices. Potential efforts may include supporting local conservation initiatives, such as the Baylands Comprehensive Conservation Plan, and partnerships with organizations like Save The Bay and Grassroots Ecology. The JMZ is also exploring opportunities to support native and endangered species programs, including western pond turtles and California red-legged frogs.

Members Admission

Members enjoy unlimited visits plus other benefits, for an entire year. Members must make advanced reservations for their visits by reserving $0 tickets online AFTER they have purchased their membership and received their confirmation email.  Please note that Memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable.

In January 2025, a new ticketing and membership portal was launched. If you are a current Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo Member, your account information was migrated to our new online portal and your membership number (your phone number) remains the same, you will need to activate your account in the new portal.

In November 2025, we started to require members to show a form of ID along with their membership tickets upon entry. This change ensures fairness and security for everyone.

Please note that only the adults listed on your membership account (and their children under 18) are eligible for free member tickets. To use a guest pass, members who are the primary account holders may bring guests upon arrival to the front desk. Please note that guest passes are single-use and will not be restored until the membership is renewed.
