There are four fulvous whistling ducks living at the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo. Keep reading to learn about their history and species! 

Fulvous Whistling Duck Fun Facts

  • They are native to tropical areas of Africa, Asia, and the Americas
  • Fulvous means reddish yellow
  • They usually lay 12-14 eggs, sometimes 6-16
  • Females may lay in each other’s nests. These group nests can hold as many as 60 eggs!
  • They eat mostly seeds and a few aquatic insects

Our fulvous whistling ducks were born between 2012 and 2013 and came to us from the Dallas Zoo.
