What is the Rainbow Tunnel?

The Rainbow Tunnel will be an immersive experience of light, sound, and color. Reflective mirrored panels that represent the colors of the rainbow will surround the tunnel, creating a kaleidoscopic experience. This will make visitors feel like the rainbow is bringing them into the museum, almost like they are riding a rainbow!

How does the Rainbow Tunnel support our mission?

The Rainbow Tunnel is a free, interactive educational exhibit that invites curiosity for visitors of all ages. Without even entering the museum, child and adults can explore mirrored spaces illuminated in vibrant rainbow colors. We encourage everyone to ask questions, look closely, and discover something new.

With color, light, and sound working together, the Rainbow Tunnel sparks wonder and imagination. Bring the whole family and help your child's curious mind shine.

Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo educators will use this space to teach concepts of reflection and sound. Mirrors and illuminated rainbow colors create opportunities for children to notice how reflections change as they move and how sound reflects off the walls.

Quotes

John Aikin, Executive Director: “The world of light and color is a magical one, full of wonder and amazement. This world can be particularly enchanting for young children as shapes and colors dance together, their imagination comes alive. We thank the Friends of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo for making this free experience possible for all."
