Green-winged Macaw Fun Facts

  • They live in tropical rain forests of southern Central America and northern South America
  • Green-winged macaws are a type of parrot
  • They can learn to speak 15 words
  • Macaws are known as gentle giants
  • They have a very strong curved beak which can crack hard nuts and seeds
  • They also eats fruits, insects, and larvae
  • Green-winged macaws can live 70 years and fly 35 mph

Sunshine

Sunshine is a male green-winged macaw. He hatched in 1995. Sunshine came to the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo from Wildlife Waystation Sanctuary in LA County.

Wacamayo

Wacamayo is also male and was hatched in 1995. Along with Sunshine, he came to the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo from Wildlife Waystation Sanctuary in LA County.
